Over here, it seems, at least temporarily, as though the crazy heat wave has broken. Triple digit temps have been the norm, and it just makes you tired and lazy. I’m looking forward to being outside more for sure!

This weekend was more active than usual. First off, I got a haircut!

I cut off a ton of hair, as it was down to the middle of my back. SO MUCH BETTER! Ahh.

Hubs and I had date night. We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Seasons 52. If you’re not familiar with this chain, they specialize in seasonally inspired cuisine and each dish stays under the 500 calorie mark. Everything there is delicious, usually, and they have a long list of creative cocktails as well.

We started out with our favorite summer martini – Strawberry infused organic vodka with basil and a touch of agave nectar.

I rolled with the Vegetarian Tasting Plate, which consisted of: “grains of life,” soft taco, chili relleno, vegetables, cedar roasted tofu, mango chutney.

The grains of life were amazing. Quinoa and bulgar I think, mixed with dried cranberries and fresh orange. Delicious. The chili relleno was also delicious, but gosh… so tiny. Like, two bite tiny. I was very disappointed with the tofu, which was barely seasoned and cold. The soft taco was good. I wouldn’t order it again. Instead I’d probably roll with the entree sized chile rellenos, because those never disappoint!

Sunday we finally made it to the Farmer’s Market. I’ve been trying to go for months, but something always happens on Sunday that prevents me from going!

So glad we went. Those tomatoes are absolutely as epic as they look. One of my favorite things ever is slices of fresh ripe tomato with mayo, salt and pepper, on toast. Mmmmm!!! I also signed up for a CSA share, so I’m really excited about that!

We had some good friends over Sunday afternoon, and our babies played and kept us busy chasing them. And we sipped on this:

Watermelon punch! I’m not posting the recipe because I think it still needs some tweaking. But in a nutshell, I scooped it out, blended it up with fresh basil and rum, and voila! I think next time I’m going to strain it so it isn’t as foamy. The vita mix really frothed it up. I may also use either vodka or a clear rum, like Bacardi, because I used a dark aged rum, and it’s so smooth and slightly sweet, so the rum taste was completely masked by the watermelon. Perhaps you like that? I really like to taste my booze. 🙂

Anyway, that was my weekend! On the agenda this week: Teach this little one how to sleep again.
